What is Machine Brows?
Permanent make up is a cosmetic technique that uses a machine, which employs pigment into the dermis layer of the skin. It is used to produce brows, particularly in people that want to enhance they’re own brows, cancer patients, alopecia. Machine is the most traditional way to create permanent make up. You can alter the machines speed, your own personal speed and needles to create different style of brows.
There is a skill and a technique in every style brow, and it is important you choose a technician that has the knowledge to give you anything you want. Choose from hair stroke, powder and combination technique.
What is Microblading Brows?
Microblading is another form of permanent make up, is also known as eyebrow embroidery and lasts the same as machine brows. The technique was first introduced in Asia. Using hairstrokes techniques and Soft Tap powdering, you can create beautiful brows. A tool contains a numerous amount of pins that are 3 times thinner than the needles used for machine. It is performed by manually depositing pigment into the basal layer of the epidermis. Microblading creates thin and crisp hairstrokes compared to machine.
There is a skill and a technique in every style brow, and it is important you choose a technician that has the knowledge to give you anything you want. Choose from hair stroke, powder and combination technique.
What is Diamant Blading?
The “Diamant Blader” is a re-usable instrument, which is composed of a hand piece and a diamond blade. The blade is made of a cut natural diamond and has a thickness of 100μm to 200μm. The hand piece is made of titanium.
You use the tool to scratch at 0.05mm thin line into the skin with a real cut diamond, each hair of the eyebrows look so natural and it doesn’t look like normal permanent make up. The skin heals very fast and the colour pigment does not blur under the skin.
Brigitte Steinmeyer created Diamant Blading; her idea was made into reality when she worked closely with a company that made surgical tools. Brigitte was aware that blades are used to make cuts in surgery, so she asked herself, I wonder if this can be done for permanent make up. After years of trialling and experimenting she created this perfect tool for the permanent make up industry.
Many people are wary of re-using a tool when doing permanent make up, however, we ensure the blade is correctly cleaned and sterilised between each client, by using a sonic cleaner and autoclave. Surgeons re-use blades every single day in surgery, so there is nothing to fear.
The tool itself is beautiful to work with, you don’t need hardly any pressure, the blade glides through the skin like silk. Give your clients the most luxurious treatment on the market.
What is Power Brows?
The Power Brows were created because many clients that come to Hollie for brows want natural and defined brows, so she wanted to create brows for women that wanted hairstrokes and definition.
A Hairstrokes technique is used throughout the brows, and then machine is used to make the strokes more defined and powdered all the way through. Power Brows are perfect for ladies who want natural but defined brows, this is great for ladies that have oily skin. Power Brows are for ladies that want a combination between hairstrokes and powder. Healed brows will show hairstrokes throughout the brows and soft powdering to give a defined look.
What is Glama Brows?
The Glama brows were created because many clients that come to Hollie for brows asks for natural, powdered brows, so she wanted to create brows for women that is used to wearing pencil every day but didn’t want it looking so bold and defined near the bulb.
An ombre technique is used to make the tail area look darker and work lighter towards the bulb. Glama Brows are perfect for ladies who are used to wearing pencil and they want a defined powder look. Glama Brows are for ladies that don’t want the blocked look, but something slightly softer and natural. Healed brows will look like a soft powder that is natural near the bulbs.
What is Platinum Brows?
The platinum brows were created because many clients that come to Hollie for brows asks for natural brows, so she wanted to create brows for women that is not used to wearing pencil every day but wanted a slight enhancement and not too defined.
A hairstrokes technique is used to make the brow look fluffy and then subtle powdering through the middle of the brow and towards the end of the tails. Platinum Brows are perfect for ladies who are not used to wearing pencil and they don’t want a defined look. Platinum Brows are for ladies that have hardly any hairs and want an enhanced look. Healed brows will look a 3D and soft throughout the whole brow.
What are Lash Enhancement and Baby Liner?
Ladies who want they're eyes enhanced, a subtle soft line is put through the lashes and the baby liner is the same, but the line is slightly thicker and we create a small flick on the corners. All you need to do is wake up and go.
Start the day with no make up and no mascara, as your eyes will already be dark and beautiful. Perfect for ladies who struggle to put eyeliner on and perfect for ladies who are starting to loose they’re eyesight.
What is the difference between Lip Line, Lip Blush and Full Colour?
Lip Line will be created by the technician using a small configuration of needles to create a line, it is used to enhance your own natural lip line, as we get older we start to loose our lip line and its really hard to see where we can apply lipstick, so this is perfect for ladies who is struggling to do this. Having the lip liner done, means ladies do not need to pencil it on every day and they can just apply a lipstick. Ladies can have it the colour of they’re favourite lipstick or they can have it natural where it just gives a little definition and makes it easier to apply other colour lip liner.
Lip Blush is when the technician will use a bigger configuration of needles, to create a soft lip enhancement. This is great for ladies who is used to applying lip gloss every day, the lip blush will create a subtle colour, so all you have to do is wake up and apply lip balm or clear gloss.
It is very important to know the difference between lip blush and lip colour. A lip colour is when the technician will use the same needle to create the lip line but on the whole lips, so it will create a solid colour, like your wearing lipstick. A lip blush is where it starts dark on the outside near the lip line but starts to fade out toward the inner part of your mouth. It will heal with slight colour, and not a solid colour like the lip colour. The looks look like an ombre, dark on the outer and softer in the inner.
Many ladies opt for a lip line with blush, creating a perfect pout, so all you need to do, is wake up and go.
Why choose Hollie Houston?
Hollie Houston trained with Nouveau Contour with Karen Betts and Bridgette Softley in May 2014. Hollie is proud to announce that Nouveau Contour won the industry leader award in 2015.
Hollie done many years of research when planning to do permanent make up and waited an extra year to save up to train with Nouveau Contour, as she wanted to train with the best and didn't mind paying more compared to other training schools.
Hollie has trained up to Silver level and will continue her training with Nouveau Contour up to her elite level where she will learn how to do medical tattooing. However, her number one passion is brows. Early 2015 Hollie also become a member of the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP) and passed the Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (CPCP) exam with Karen Betts. It is very important to Hollie that she is part of an organisation that keeps up to date with the industry and is always expanding her knowledge.
As well as using machine to create beautiful brows Hollie can also microblade. Hollie went on training with Katerina Zapletova to learn how to do Microblading. Hollie was very keen in learning this technique; she travelled 4 hours away from home when she was 8 months pregnant. Hollie was determined to be the first person in Southampton to use this technique. Straight away Hollie fell in love with this type of brow and knew it was worth the risk.
The next adventure for Hollie was to learn other techniques in brows with Nouveau Contour, learning how to create powder and combination brows. Hollie was eager to learn, and travelled 2 hours away from home after giving birth to her son 4 weeks after. You could say, leaving her new born baby for 3 full days was very hard for her, but she knew that knowledge is power and its important to be the best.
Hollie went to Katerina Zapletova to learn how to do Diamant Blading later in 2015. She knew that this was the tool for her; it is beautiful to work with and feels like silk when using it. Hollie was asked to visit Brigitte Steinmeyer, director of Diamant Blading, in Berlin for a meeting in November 2015. Brigitte asked Hollie to become the Worldwide Conference Speaker for Diamant Blading. This was very over whelming news, something that Hollie had been dreaming of. Early 2016 Brigitte asked Hollie to be the UK distributor for Diamant Blading.
Hollies’ business is all about brows; she eats, breathes and sleeps brows. 100% of Hollies’ business is doing brows and she believes brows are her life. When researching other training schools in the UK, it’s hard to find somewhere, where you can train just to do brows in Machine, Microblading and Diamant Blading. This was a great opportunity for Hollie to open her own academy to teach just brows to her students.
While achieving all of the fantastic things above and while caring for her two children, she also runs a very busy beauty salon and has her own regular clients where she will do about 8-10 brows a week. They say you should only go by the amount of years in experience, however, Hollie believes, that’s not the case! A technician could have 10 years experience and only do 1 set of brows a week, or someone with 2 years experience who does 10 brows a week. Its not about how many years experience you have, its about the passion and motivation. Both factors that Hollie has!
Browse away at all of the beautiful and fabulous brows Hollie has created, and be sure your in the right hands to help make your dreams come to reality.
Just don’t think about it! Do it!
How long does Permanent make up last?
Excessive exposure to sun, sun beds, unique body chemistry, medical conditions, facial care maintenance and pigments used" will affect how long the treatment will last, you will need a colour boost between 9-18months, depending on the factors above. It is important to understand that anything and everything affects your skin, down to contraception, greasy foods, a lot of exercise, how many times you wash and so on.
If you don't have a colour boost the treatment will fade over 3-5 years, again, depending on the factors above. It is really important to look after your brows, stay away from them as much as possible, no make up, no pencil, no sun beds, no facial products on the brows and to keep out of the sun. If you have oily skin, there is a risk that your brows will not take, and if they do not take they may not last as long. Please be aware some ladies may need a 3rd top up at an extra expense depending on the factors above.
Does it hurt?
The degree of discomfort depends on client’s pain threshold, location of procedure performed, use of anaesthetics and the skill of the technician. The least painful treatment is brows compared to lips and eyes. Most of my clients say that a brow thread hurts more than the treatment itself.
I will talk you through any discomfort and make sure you feel comfortable through the whole procedure. With plenty of stretching and using topical anaesthetics, I will try and make the procedure as relaxing as possible.
What is the best colour?
What is seen in the pigment container is not the colour that will be seen in the skin when the procedure is healed. It is really important when choosing a colour with me that you understand the colour will fade by 40%.
The true colour will only show when the skin is healed. Every pigment looks different on different skin tones. This is why its important to place the pigment on your skin before finally choosing one that looks best. You may love the colour that someone else had, however, this may not be the right colour for you.
We will also conduct a Fitzpatrick questionnaire to determine what skin tone you are, this will help us decide what colour is best for you, if you decide to go darker than what I have suggested then you will need to sign a disclaimer, where there is a risk brows may heal grey/blue if we use a pigment that is too cool for your skin tone.
All brows may eventually heal or fade a different colour, we cannot determine or predict what colour your brows are going to end up. We do not take responsibility for this, your body chemistry, and sun exposure and the way that you look after them will determine the overall result.
What is the healing process?
After the treatment the brows, eyes or lips will slightly start to scab, leaving the area very itchy and tight. This will last between 3-5 days. It is very important you do not get your area wet for at least 72 hours and you do not pick the scabs or itch. You will be given healing balm to help with irritation, it is important you only apply this when necessarily and not all the time. After the scabs fall off, the pigment will completely fade and it will look like you have nothing left.
DON'T PANICK!! This is completely normal!
Then between 2-4 weeks the colour will gradually come back, however, not all of the pigment will come back; this is why we do a 4-6 week top up within the price. The treatment will look different to what you had done before; this is why it’s important to come to your top up 4-6 weeks after your treatment to ensure they are finished completely. The whole healing process will take between 8-10 weeks before you see the final result. If you do not come back for your second top up before the 8 weeks then you will be charged for a full set again, as I will have to start from scratch again
What is the consultation process?
Its is really important to choose what method is best for you, whether to have eye liner or lash enhancement for your eyes, to have just lip blush than both, or to choose what type of brows you would like, powder or natural.
At Hollie Houston Permanent Cosmetics we do lots of types of brows, this all depends on what type of brows you already have and what look your trying to achieve. This will be the first thing we discuss on the day of your treatment before we do anything. Once a style or type of treatment is chosen, were then design and draw. Once the design is drawn, we will then go through all the colours and start to choose a colour that bests suits you, we can also mix colour together to create a perfect colour just for you. We will not proceed or go ahead until you are 100% satisfied with everything. You will sign a disclaimer at this stage to say you’re happy with colour and shape chosen.
Agreement for your 4-6 weeks Top Up
It is very important that you come back between 4-6 weeks for your top up, if you leave it over the 6-8 weeks then the colour in the skin will fade, and we will need to start all over again. If we need to start again then there is a £100 charge to do this, with you signing and dating below, shows you are aware of this charge and you agree to the terms of this condition. You pay your initial treatment and this covers you for one free session 4-6 weeks after your initial appointment.
I cannot determine your skin condition, so if you have very dry skin, oily skin, frequent tanner etc this is not down to poor on my behalf this is your skin condition. If you do require further top up because of this there will be a cost of £50 for materials. This has to be done within the first 3 months of the initial treatment. After this time the boost costs are as follows, 3-6 months £100, 6-12 months £150, 12-18 months £185. You will also need to sign another disclaimer to say that you are happy with the final colour and shape, if there’s any changes that need to be made once this has been signed then you will have to pay to come back in. If you do decide to change the shape on the 4-6 week top up, please be aware you may need another 3rd top up to go over the places that are new, to ensure they stay.
It is very important to understand if you plan to go on holiday, go on sunbed or to expose your skin to the sun then this will hugely fade your brows.
The sun will break down the pigment, even if you wear sun factor 50 on them, the brows will still fade, it is important that you make Hollie aware that you are planning to go on holiday or you have regular sunbed, if this is the case, you may need a 3rd top up and will be charged £50-£100 if its within 12 weeks of the initial treatment.
On the day we will conduct a scratch test behind the ear with the colour pigment you are going to use, this way, it will ensure that if you are going to react, you will react straight away as we have scratched the skin.
You will need to sign a form that contains the information below:
I have undergone a Scratch Test on the day of the treatment and I have had no reaction. I would like to proceed to have the treatment done. I take full responsibility of any reaction I may occur during and after the procedure. I have read and fully understood the above information. I have completed the patch test as instructed and I have experienced no reaction/ a reaction.
We also recommend having a patch test done 24 hours before the treatment, however, this is not compulsory, but we would ask you to sign a waiver to say your happy to go ahead without a patch test.
Step 1 – Do not get your brows wet until the scabs have fallen off, if you can help it, try and keep them dry as long as possible, especially when they are scabby. The longer the scabs are on, the better, the better the healing will be and the colour retention.
Step 2 – I will apply a barrier balm before you leave the salon, you must leave this on for 4 days, do not remove it or do not touch it.
Step 3 – Do not expose the area to sunlight or sun beds at all. If you are going to be in the sun then please apply sun factor 50 with a cotton bud, even though you have sun cream on them, this is still not enough barrier to protect them, therefore, you may have to pay for a third top up if they have been exposed to the sun.
Step 4 – My best advice to you is to leave the area alone as much as possible, no washing them, no wiping them, no pencil, no make up and no facial products. The more you leave them alone the better.
Step 5 – If you have dry skin you will be given a small amount of healing balm, this is for emergencies only, please apply this with a cotton bud, less as possible, only use this if your brows are really itchy and you cant handle it. The less you use it the better. You can also use this when you are having a shower or bath, just to protect the area from getting wet. If you have oily skin, do not apply anything, leave them alone, by adding healing balm, your adding more oils.
Step 6 – Lips, use a straw while they are healing for drinking, avoid salty and spicy foods.
